After installing and activating Supercharger, follow these steps to get everything running.
Step 1: Configure Your AI Provider
Go to Supercharger → Settings → API Integration and select the Generation Provider you want to use for producing summaries, highlights, quotes, and other AI-generated content.
Supercharger supports:
- OpenAI
- Anthropic
- DeepSeek
- OpenRouter
See the AI Providers section for details on each option.
Enter the API key for your chosen provider. The key is stored securely in your WordPress database and is never exposed on the front end.
Note
If you want to use any module that recommends or recirculates related posts (AI Recommendations, Inline Recommendations, Continue Reading Chips, Footer Recirculation, Smart Up-Next, Exit-Intent Recirculation), you will also need an OpenAI API key specifically for generating vector embeddings. You can use a different provider for text generation and use OpenAI solely for embeddings.
Step 2: Select Content Types
Go to Supercharger → Settings → Content & Indexing and choose which post types Supercharger should process. By default, only Posts is selected.
Step 3: Run Indexing
Go to Supercharger → Tools and click Incremental Indexing to begin processing your existing content. Supercharger will queue all published posts of the selected post types and process them in the background via WordPress cron.
Note
Initial indexing time depends on the size of your content library and your API provider’s rate limits.
Step 4: Enable Modules
Go to Supercharger → Modules and enable the modules you want to use. Each module can be toggled on and off individually and configured with its own settings.
For new users, we recommend starting with one or two modules and expanding from there once you’re comfortable.
Step 5: Customize Appearance
Each module has its own Styles tab where you can adjust fonts, colors, spacing, and other visual properties. You can also set global defaults under Supercharger → Settings → Styles.
